Eat Your Way to a Good Night's Rest
If you are having trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, put down the sleeping pills and try munching on some light, high-carb snacks before bed instead. Carbs boost levels of your brain's sleep chemical, serotonin without overworking your digestive system. Here are the top ten foods proven to help you get a good night's rest:
1. Two cups of airpopped popcorn
2. Half of a raisin bagel or English muffin topped with honey
3. A small slice of angel food cake topped with berries
4. A whole wheat waffle with maple syrup
5. Fresh strawberries dipped in fat-free chocolate syrup
6. Half a cup of pasta with marinara sauce
7. Some pretzels
8. Baked potato topped with salsa
9. A handful of oyster crackers and some fruit
10. Canned mandarin oranges with some crystallized ginger sprinkled on top
You can also drink some milk or sip a cup of chamomile or valerian tea after eating one of these snacks for an even better effect. Sweet dreams!
