3 Foods to Help You Stay Fit this Holiday Season

Happy holidays, loves!  From Thanksgiving on into the New Year,  there will be holiday dinners, company parties, and drinks (alcoholic and otherwise *wink*).  With the hustle and bustle of present buying, dealing with family and friends, and traveling, working out and eating healthy often goes out the window.

I'm all for being able to let my hair down a little and enjoying a little Jamaican black cake (my fellow Caribbean massive knows what I am talking about) or some mac and cheese. Life is for living and I like to have a little treat every now and then. The key is to not go overboard.

I personally like to incorporate different foods that help detoxify or alkalinize the body.  There are numerous ones you can use but, my common three are:

1. Lemons (I squeeze half of a lemon into a cup of warm water)-
  • purifies the blood
  • rich source of vitamin C, magnesium, potassium, and calcium
  • flushes out toxins
  • aids in digestion

2. Apple Cider Vinegar ( I use the Bragg's Apple Cider vinegar)-
  • rich in enzymes, B vitamins, folic acid and
  • supports bowel regularity
  • detoxes the body

3. Green juice-
  • made in a blender or juicer, a juice made from fresh fruits and green veggies is chock full of phytochemicals, vitamins and minerals.
  • the vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals in fresh green juice
  • can help you have more energy
  • help with digestion
  • help to mae the body more alkaline

By all means enjoy your holiday season.  Drink, laugh and be in love with life but, do not let this season get you off track from your fitness goals.

Happy Holidays!

Holiday Hair

I can't believe tomorrow is Thanksgiving already! Before you know it Christmas will be here and then, New Years..eeek!  Lots of good home cookin' and fellowship will be had but, I am still trying to figure out what to do with this hair.  You may or may not already know about my recent hair fiasco that caused my hair to become severely damaged (if not you can read about it here).  Therefore, I am still nursing my hair but I still want to look cute at these upcoming gatherings, parties and for my birthday in about two weeks!

I plan to co-wash with Pantene Co-Wash, apply a Clairol semi-permanent rinse in Darkest Brown, then follow with Aphogee Keratin reconstructor to help keep this breakage at bay.  After that, my hairstyle for Turkey Day is still up in the air.  Here's what I'm considering:

My go-to twistout

Wash-n-go pony puff
Side pony puff

A goddess braid inspired by the beautiful MsDanti1

I would LOVE to do the goddess braid because I've never tried one before but, I'm not sure how that will look on me.  Guess I'll make my mind up tomorrow!

How will you be wearing your hair for Thanksgiving or for any of the other holidays this season?

And My Christmas List Goes a Little Something Like This.....

Christmas is right around the corner and while I am well past that stage of equating Christmas with material possessions, I do like to have a mental list just in case there are a few people who feel like playing Santa!

Here is my list:

1. Huetiful Steamer- this steamer is creating quite a buzz in the natural hair community and I am dying to have one in my possession to help my lovely locks!

2. Gift Cards- You can never go wrong with a gift card. I would like to cash in for some great skin and hair products at ULTA, Whole Foods and Sephora.

3. Jeanette Jenkins workout DVD- I already have the Blast the Belly Fat dvd (see my previous post here) but, I would love to have all the others.  I will alternate between these, the P90x and Insanity workout dvd's.

4. Canon Rebel T2i camera - enough said....

5. Giovanni Direct hair products - I live by the Giovanni Direct leave-in conditioner! It has really come through for me during this 9 month transition!

6. Juice Beauty products- I had the opportunity to review the Juice Beauty moisturizer last year and I have fallen in love with this organic product line!

There are many more things that could go on this list but, these are the main ones that stand out. A new Infiniti G37 S, a God-sent mate and  my dream job would also be quite welcomed but, I know that's already in the works.

What's on your Christmas list?
