Seeing The Beauty In Tragedy

I have so much to be thankful for and I just want to shout it from the rooftop!! Why am I so ecstatic?

On New Year's Eve, instead of thinking of a list of resolutions to write down I decided to think about all of the things I was most grateful for.  I also decided to consciously have an attitude of gratitude in 2010 and beyond because I believe that it can do amazing things for your spirit and your life.

Well fast forward  to this past Tuesday night (just 19 days after New Years Eve), I was in a car accident and the experience was traumatic to say the least.  I was hit by a man who ran a red light, the car I was driving in spun around, went up on the sidewalk and before I hit a concrete wall, I literally saw my life flash before my eyes.  It was a surreal experience.

When I got out and looked at the car, I was in disbelief that I was not hurt worse.  The man who hit me was very apologetic and was willing to help any way he could.  Throughout the night, I would wake up and just begin to cry and pray, thanking God for protecting me.  I am just so overcome with emotion to think that I must have some deeper purpose in my life that God wants me to fulfill and that He thought enough of me to save me.

Even when my lawyer saw the pics, he was amazed that my injuries were not more severe.  He said he has seen people whose cars had received less damage than the one I was driving, who had sustained far worse injuries.

When all of life's issues and hurdles threaten to keep me discouraged, I am reminded that God is still in control and He has a greater plan at hand!! For this I am forever grateful and my heart is filled with joy.

What are your stories of gratitude?

  1. Wow, Candice! I'm sorry to hear about the accident and I am rejoicing with you for God's hand of protection on your life. I do believe that God will protect His investment to ensure that we fulfill our purposes. A lot of times God will allow situations to occur in our life to not only set us up for great things to come, but to remind us that we need to kneel at His feet daily. Again, I'm rejoicing with you! Healing grace to you...

  2. My God, what a great testimony. This is the second testimony I've seen this week about how God has protected someone from tragedy. God has a way of getting our attention to draw us closer to Him. It's amazing how much He's willing to do whatever it takes to draw us nigh to Him, simply because He loves us so much. Thanking God for His divine protection over you. May you walk in all that He has for you.

  3. First and foremost I am so glad to hear that God stepped in and kept you safe. I recall being in a similar sounding accident 2 weeks before I was due to leave for college on an ROTC scholarship. I was spared from injuries from an accident which resulted in the car I was a passenger in crashing in to the side of a house. I was blessed to be unharmed. Situations like these give you an entirely new perspective on your life. We're very thankful you are ok.

    Love and blessings,

  7. Very thankful that you are ok, and you are right these types of experiences really help to show you that God is with you and makes you value life more.

When I was 16 I was hit by a car that was going 55MPH as I was crossing the street. It threw me 50 feet in the air and I landed on the roof of the car before falling to the pavement. At the hospital they did repeated x-rays and CT scans because they could not believe that my only injury was a broken left leg and some minor cuts. Even at such a young age I began to look at my life differently.
