Clean Eats

I recently finished the 10 day detox by Koya Webb and I'm already thinking about doing another one next week. Want to find out what the 10 day detox entails? Click here.

I had more energy, my stomach was flatter, my skin was glowing and I was seeing more results from my workouts....and all within just 10 days! Needless to say, I was really feeling myself and I want to do another detox to get that feeling back.  I'm a slim girl so I was a little afraid to start losing weight in other places but, I only lost about 3 pounds.

After coming off the detox, I've been dealing with some major life curveballs and I began to stop by Krispy Kreme for some doughnuts and chips began to replace my evening snack of Greek yogurt.  When I'm stressed, junk food becomes my comfort and I have been under a lot of pressure recently but I know that I will not be able to reach my fitness goals if I continue to stuff my face with Oreos and Cheetos.  So, I have decided to go back to eating cleaner and will officially do another 10 day detox on Monday.

Here's what I had for breakfast:

Egg white omelet with spinach and mushrooms
Greek yogurt
1 bottle of Arden's Garden green juice

Gotta control this emotional eating so that I can feel better and be better equipped to deal with everything being thrown my way.

What do you turn to when you are stressed or upset?

Black and Yellow, Black and Yellow!

Superbowl Sunday is finally here and if you haven't guessed already, my bets are on the Steelers. The best part about Superbowl for me is the food and fellowship! I'm still on the 30-day Cardio challenge so, no fried food or alcohol for me.  I am allowed three cheat days this month but I will probably save them for next weekend. I'll be slurping down fruit smoothies and munching on hummus, tortilla chips and baked fish instead.  What's on your Superbowl Sunday menu?

Happy Thanksgiving!

From Google Images

Happy Turkey Day (or Tofurky Day, for my vegetarians and vegans)!

This Thanksgiving, I truly have a lot to be thankful for.  I'm learning to be thankful even for the not so good things in my life.  It's all a part of the journey.  I'm especially thankful for all this great food I'm about to eat today!  I was up late last night helping to cook so, I can't wait to indulge.

What are you thankful for?

Alkalinizing Your Body

Making your body less acidic is a very important part of maintaining good health. To prevent disease from growing in your body and decrease inflammation you eat and drink more alkaline foods and drinks.  The risk of disease and inflammation  in the body dramatically increases when it is acidic. Foods and drinks such as coffee, alcohol, sugar, white flour, processed foods and meat can all increase your body's acidity.  You may start to have symptoms such as acid reflux, heartburn, indigestion, stomach pains, arthritis and sinus colds, rashes and hives.

Any pH level below 7.4 is considered acidic. The lower you are, the more acidic your body is. You can test your body's pH by using pH testing kits, found at local pharmacies or health food stores. Want to know what exactly to consume more of to help alkalinize your body? A list of acidifying and alkaline foods can be found here.

I had chronic hives earlier this year for about 4 months and I could not figure out why. The doctors were unable to give me any answers either. It was beyond frustrating! I now believe that stress was the culprit.  Stress and worry can also cause your body to become acidic over time! I have had to learn some serious stress management techniques because nothing is worth risking my health. I also drink a cup of water with two tbsps. of apple cider vinegar every morning.  It is great for alkalinizing your body and has excellent cleansing properties.
