Zendaya's Locs on the Red Carpet

There has been much buzz around the comments made by Giuliana Rancic regarding Disney star, Zendaya's faux locs that she rocked to the Oscars--and rightly so.

Rancic is one of the hosts on Fashion Police, a show basically all about "jokingly" bashing what someone look from head to toe (hair included). The comment  she made that has caused a tizzy all over the media? She said that Zendaya's locs made her look like she "smelled of patchouli oil and weed."

Rancic definitely put her foot in her mouth with this uncalled for comment and while the internet went ablaze with the masses going in on the Fashion Police host, Zendaya's response was very mature to say the least:

"There is already harsh criticism of African-American hair in society without the help of ignorant people who choose to judge others based on the curl of their hair,” Zendaya wrote. “My wearing my hair in locs on an Oscar red carpet was to showcase them in a positive light, to remind people of color that our hair is good enough.”

While I don't believe this is any reason to start a riot or anything, I do think that this should bring to our attention the fact that we ALL still carry around unfair stereotypes and beliefs about others.  We sometimes say things out of jest that can be hurtful and at times even hateful.

I wear my hair in its naturally curly state 80% of the time and I have heard all manner of craziness directed towards me about the hair that grows out of MY head naturally. While I choose to wear my hair natural because I like it, there were times where I allowed negative comments to make me second guess my decision to be au naturale.

I'm proud of Zendaya for being bold enough to go against the norm and rock her faux locs on the red carpet despite what society may think about it.

Personally, I thought she looked very classy and I hope this incident will help us to pay more attention to the thoughts we hold each day and the words of hate, criticism, and downright evil that we sometimes let slip through our lips about another individual without a blink.

What did you think about Rancic's comments and Zendaya's locs?

My Weekend Wash 'N' Go

Hey, loves! I have been getting super frustrated with my hair lately.  It was feeling so dry and just looking like a short, poodle-like curly 'fro due to this dreaded in-between stage I'm in right now (so not the look I'm going for). Anywho, I don't know what made me want to try a wash-n-go this weekend but, I'm so glad I did.

I need to stock up on more shampoo and conditioner...BAD! So, I had to reach under my bathroom sink and use something out of my old stash.  I co-washed with Pantene Co-Wash conditioner, which I haven't used in forever, and then applied my trusty Eco-styler gel with olive oil.

I let my hair air dry and lightly diffused on the cool setting for about 5 min.

My hair was so defined and shiny! Wash-n-go success.

Are wash-n-go's your thing? What does your wash-n-go routine consist of?

Hair Talk: Short and Sweet

Hey loves! Bringing you a little update on what's been going on with my hair.  I previously wrote about my hair woes here on the blog but, the short version is that  I cut my hair really short in May to get rid of severe heat damage from a stylist (Ugh!) then, I wore extension braids and Sengalese twists off and on for the past few months.

After taking out my braids a few weeks ago, I decided to get my hair cut into a style.  It had grown a good three inches since being chopped in May but, I was not feeling how it looked previously.  The back was longer than the front and without braids I just did not like it AT ALL.

I scoured the internet and Pinterest for a little inspiration and this pic stood out to me.

Super cute and chic, huh?

I did some research and found a stylist here in Atlanta, at Kalen's Beautiful Beginnings salon, who could do something similar to this---and still keep my hair natural and healthy.

I was so pleased with my experience!  I was nervous going in there but, when I left I was really feeling myself and was glad I decided against getting a partial relaxer.

The same day I got my hair done, I went to a 90's birthday party. I threw this outfit together so last minute with just some things I found in my closet.

I think I pulled it off.

I love my hair so much that I am actually considering keeping it short for a while.  Never thought I would say that but, hey why not?

Short Hair Woes

Hi, loves!  You may remember me posting a few weeks back about how I went and got my hair chopped off to get damage I received after a stylist's straightening attempt left my hair straight up cinged.  My hair was breaking like crazy and my 3 years of hard work to go natural went down the drain in just a matter of days.

I got some Sengalese twists put in shortly after the cut and I took them out about a week ago.  I have no idea what to do with my hair and I really dislike the cut more than I thought I would. I have done wash-n-go's which are really cute for the first day but after that my hair feels and looks like a dry, Brillo pad (not really the look I'm going for). I have done finger coils also, which are pretty cute but after day 2 my hair looks and feels crazy again. With hair this short I can't just throw it up in a bun and be on my way like I used to.

I will say that wash day is essentially a breeze right now!  Besides that, I'm just not feeling it and it has seriously made me a recluse in the past few days.  Or when I leave the house, I don't go anywhere I can't wear my hat to.  Sad, I know.

I have always swooned over short, edgy styles on others and anticipated rockin' my short hair while I nursed it back to its previous length but it's just not working out *sigh*.  Guess I will be putting in some braids while it grows out some more.

Well if you didn't see it on Instagram, here is my official reveal:

Have you ever cut your hair drastically?  Did you like it at first?

Tamron Hall Rocks Her Natural

I know, I know....I'm super late but, I just loved Tamron Hall's natural curly look on the Today Show a few days ago! I think she's beautiful straight or curly and it is inspiring seeing a woman in her position confident enough to wear her hair in a way that is sometimes not deemed as "professional" or polished by some.

I had all of my hair cut super short a few weeks ago (pics coming soon) and I am so not feeling it yet.  I'm really sad about having to let go all of my hair (and hard work) because of severe heat damage from one stylist visit but, it had to be done.  I just feel like I don't have the face for a super short cut and I really don't feel like myself.

Tamron gives a girl some hope! Ha!

What do you think of Tamron's hair?
