Sunday Chronicles: Face Masks, Falcons, and Relaxation

After a hellified week (yes, I made that word up) of work, researching, dealing with obstacles and working out I really look forward to the weekend.  Sadly, I usually still use the weekend to do the aforementioned things but, I take time out to take care of me too.  I do my nails, put on a face mask and do something to my hair. It's amazing how just these three things can make me feel like a new woman again!

This Sunday I am also watching the Falcons game and doing a quick 10-minute ab workout I found on Youtube.  Check it out here

This stuff is the truth! It works wonders for my skin.

This Sunday I am also watching the Falcons game (I root for them because I live in the 'A' but, the NY Giants are my team!!) and doing a quick 10-minute ab workout I found on Youtube.  Check it out here

Always take time out for you. You won't be able to give your best if you don't feel and look your best!

Sunday Fun day

Sunday is usually my day to clean up, cook, give my hair some extra t.l.c. and get caught up on blogging, leisure reading, etc.  Oh, and my new favorite thing to do on Sundays is to watch OWN for Super Soul Sunday.  I LOVE the shows on Oprah's network every day but, my spirit especially gains so much every time I sit down to watch Super Soul Sunday.  Have you watched OWN on Sundays?

This Sunday morning, I had some fresh green juice and pancakes made with fresh, blended strawberries and bananas (all courtesy of my sweetie *wink*).

Then, I pulled my trusty Huetiful steamer back out and deep conditioned my hair (soooo needed).  I really want to get back to having bra-strap length hair when straightened so, deep conditioning treatments will be more frequent for me! I tried a honey-olive oil treatment that I found on CurlyNikki (which made my hair oh so very soft), and I opted for something different and did a braidout this time instead of my usual twistout.  I'll be posting pics of the results this week.

What do your Sundays look like?

Weekend Relaxation

After a long week filled with school work, studying, researching, blogging and a long list of other things, I really look forward to the weekend.  Sadly, I usually still use the weekend to do the aforementioned things but, I take time out to take care of me too.  I do my nails, put on a face mask and do something to my hair. It's amazing how just these three things can make me feel like a new woman again!

This stuff is the truth! It works wonders for my skin.

I decided to step away from my usual nudes/pinks and try a silver color.

Always take time out for you. You won't be able to give your best if you don't feel and look your best! What do you do on the weekends?

Valentine's Day Weekend Recap

For Valentine's day weekend, my boyfriend and I joined four other couples on a ski trip in Tennessee.  It was a memorable weekend despite a few disagreements and three of the guys (including mine!) coming down with high fevers and chills. For me, it was a much needed getaway. I had a chance to kick back, laugh and get to know some wonderful people. The mountains of Tennessee provided the perfect scenery for a beautiful weekend! It's amazing how a relaxing trip can help you to feel recharged and renewed again.

Turks and Caicos islands is next on my list....hopefully! Where do you go for a quick getaway?

In Dire Need of a Pick-Me-Up

So much is going on with me right now and I am feeling so stressed! UGH! I'm started to think that my chronic hives are due to the craziness going on right now. (My previous post about it here.)

Without boring you all with the long story of my life and what is going on right now, I'll just say I need to:

-Buy car
-Find a job
-Find an apartment

I'm so disappointed in  people right now.  It's sad when someone who claims they love you so much will take advantage of your situation and use it against you.

At this point I have to look out for me....that includes finding a way to de-stress and staying focused on my goals. I think that I may go to the beach since I'm in Florida this week, get a manicure/ pedicure and read some inspirational books. Oh, and I can't forget my yoga!

I know that I can make it through this but, it feels so scary when there seems to be no solution in sight.

How do you stay calm and in good spirits when everything else around you seems to be in a whirlwind?

Thirty's the New Twenty....I'm So Hot Still

Since I blew out the candles on my cake for my 29th birthday in December, I have been planning what I will do this year for my 30th! I have always said that when I turned 30, I would do something big to celebrate.  I have a lot to be thankful for and I refuse to be depressed about hitting the big 3-0.  I am blessed beyond measure, I feel and look good (on most days!) so I intend to age gracefully.

At first I said that I would throw a big party, get dolled up and invite all of my friends and family. But, now I am leaning more towards a tropical getaway of some sort. I will either do a girls' trip or just go with my honey. I think I just want to have some fun and relaxation.

I still am unsure of the exact location though. Here are a few that I have been researching:

  • Costa Rica
  • Puerto Rico
  • Turks and Caicos
  • Vegas (it's too cold here in December so this option is probably out!)

For my soon-to-be 30 or 30+ ladies, how do you/did you bring in your fabulous thirties? I need ideas!

Relax...Relate...Release...

I am starting to realize that it is so hard for me to really relax.  Whenever I begin to indulge in some self-pampering or any other down time, I start feeling somewhat guilty.

"What do I NEED to do right now?"

"Okay, this is a waste of my time."

"I should be studying right now, writing, or sending out resumes."

"I really need to call X, Y and Z back."

These are just some of the thoughts that creep into my mind whenever I want to just take a break from the craziness of life.  However, after a few explosive outbursts, anxiety attacks complete with a full body rash, and crying spells I have learned that learning to really relax is just as important as anything else on my extensive to-do list.

For me, cleaning my house from top to bottom while playing some of my favorite songs in the background was my relaxation choice.  While I would be pleased with how neat and clean everything was afterwards, I was left feeling more exhausted and worked up than when I started.

I've tried exercising to let off steam but, for some reason this is almost impossible for me.  For some strange reason, I get the best workouts when I am in a good mood already. I know it works for so many others but, attempting to work out while I'm stressed out is a huge negative for me.

So, I am still searching for some REAL de-stressing methods.  Something that will have my mind AND body at ease, even if it's only for a few minutes. I never dreamt that relaxing would be this hard but, I guess I will keep trying to figure it out.

So, how do you de-stress?

I Need A Massage!

As a self-proclaimed girly girl, I LOVE anything that involves pampering.  Pedicures, manicures, getting my hair done, facials are just a few of my guilty pleasures.  At the top of that list are massages.  My sweetheart surprised me one year on my birthday with a full body massage at Massage Envy and it exceeded all of my expectations.  It was my first massage so I was a little apprehensive when I was told that I would have to take all of my clothes off (I'm not sure if I expected them to massage me with my clothes on or what!)

The whole experience was so relaxing to say the least and unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to have another massage since then.  In trying to juggle going back to school, flying back and forth between Florida and Georgia more times than I would have liked to and recovering from my car accident two weeks ago, I am sure I will make it back to the massage table real soon!

Besides it's calming benefits, massages are exceptional for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.  I just recently found this out after reading Natural Cures They Don't Want You To Know About by Mike Treadeau, in which he recommends getting a Swedish massage regularly to help detox your body and improve your health. All the more reason for me to go and pamper myself!

What was your first massage experience like?
